Madison River
The Mighty Madison. All doom and gloom? Not so, but don't tell anyone. I saw the news this evening and they have figured out the problem and plan on fixing the dam problem asap. But both the upper and lower Madison River are still fishing really well. You can't float some sections on the upper because of the flow levels, but the wade fishing has been decent. We have been fishing the lower lately and having great success. Every fish we put in the net is super fat and the increased flows seamed to dislodged every crayfish in the river and it is a buffet. Crayfish and sculpins followed by a small beadhead lightning bug has been the ticket. Because of the high flows we have been doing 2 floats in a day and getting them from ramp to ramp. There has been a good hatch of psuedos, but not a lot of surface activity. You will have your shots at the big boys(20 inch plus) but with the high flows they are tougher to land. If you are heading out to the upper try fishing around three dollar bridge and the slide, but don't plan on wading much. Fishing from the bank is the norm right now and the trout are all pushed up on the banks.
