Missouri River

The “Mighty Mo” is a nickname that you might hear when people talk about this premier fly-fishing river. This term may be intimidating, but once you experience the fishing on this river you won’t be able to stay away.
The Missouri River is formed at the town of Three Forks, where the Madison, Gallatin, and Jefferson rivers come together. The river flows from Three Forks to Great Falls, Montana and covers over 150 miles. Along the way several reservoirs of water are formed including Canyon Ferry, Hauser Lake, and Holter Lake. The Missouri River can be characterized as a tail water fishery with a slow easy current that reaches 100 yards in width in most places.
The water that we concentrate on is the section from Holter dam to the town of Cascade. This 35-mile blue ribbon stretch of water holds an abundance of trout. We like to float various sections of this river looking for “pods” of rising fish. Using the boat for transportation we hunt the fish in this river. Long leaders and light tippets are usually the norm, with your typical small spring creek flies knotted on the end.
Because of the rivers vicinity to Bozeman, we make this an overnight trip. Many of our clients enjoy staying in various B&B’s, or local motels. We would be happy to give you some recommendations on different lodging possibilities.
