The Lower Madison has been a consistant favorite lately.  Overcast days have been bringing out the baetis mayflies.  When the fish aren't looking up crayfish, golden stones, and PT's have all produced well.  The fish are still in the deeper runs and buckets, and you have to fish very thoroughly.  If you can't get a bite the first thing to change is your weight.

The Gallatin is on fire right now.  The fish are coming out of their winter hibernation and are on the eat.  They are not very specific on what’s on the menu as long as you have a decent drift.  Golden stones, princes, hares ears, pheasant tails, and midge larva are all working under the surface.  Later in the afternoon you should see a very good midge hatch and the Baetis are just starting.   Anything from a para adams to Griffiths gnats will fool these hungry trout.  The weekend is going to be perfect so get out there and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year.

The Upper Madison is now closed from Quake Lake to Macatee bridge.  It will not open up until the 3rd Saturday in May to give the rainbows a chance to spawn.  Right now there is plenty of ice jams below Macatee so wading is your best shot.

Get out there and fish the stone.  Plenty of dry fly fishing on the overcast days.  Both Baetis and midges are abundant later in the day.  The best fishing has been floating above and around Livingston.  When the fish aren't loking up tie on girdle bugs, baetis nymphs, and the red wiggler.  Looking for the big boys then break out the 7 weight and tie on your favorite sculpin pattern and give it a slow retrieve off the banks.  A little chuck and duck can pay off with big rewards.

The Missouri is fishing very well with nymphs right now, and on overcast days you should see plenty of rising trout if it isn't too windy.  Most of the trout are being caught on various baetis and midge nymphs fished under an indicator.  SJ worms, scuds, and sow bugs fill out the rest of the menu.
