Spring fishing in Montana is moving fast this year. After a busy April on the water, one thing has become very clear: many of our spring hatches are showing up earlier than usual. In fact, we are seeing some bugs about two to three weeks ahead of where they traditionally appear on the calendar.

That does not mean every day is automatic. This is still Montana in the spring. Weather changes, water temperatures move up and down, and river conditions can shift quickly. But when the pieces come together, the fishing has been very good — and the trout are paying attention.
