I have been itching to get back on the water lately and this weekend looked like a perfect day to float the Yellowstone. The weatherman was calling for 50 degrees, no wind or precept. A perfect recipe for fishing the stone.
I called up a buddy and grabbed my girlfriend and we headed upstream of Livingston, MT to hit the Yellowstone River. We hit the ramp and had it all to ourselves. There wasn't a puff of wind and the sun was peaking out between the clouds. It was a typical early season trip on the Yellowstone, the water was cool, a bit off color but still very fishable. It was a slow morning but as the day warmed up so did the fishing. The trout chased streamers and the midges came off big time. We didn't see many heads until we got into the foam eddies. When we found these foam eddies the trout where stacked up sipping midges. We spent the majority of our time targeting these eddies and found eager trout eating everything close by. We tied on a big attractor followed by a bi-visible and pounded the trout. Most of the trout are were in the 12-16 inch range but they were all hungry and all feisty. It ended up being a great day on the river for everyone there.
