The deadline for public comment on the Madison River is October 30th and is soon approaching.
I wanted to send you a friendly reminder, that if you are so inclined to comment and haven't done so, please take a few minutes to let Montana Fish and Wildlife know your thoughts. Just follow this link to the state's website and comment at the bottom of the page.
If you are unaware of what is happening, the short story is that MT FWP wants to implement rule changes to the Madison River for both commercial users and non-residents. FOAM, who is the association that represents Montana's Fishing Guides and Outfitters, has come up with a proposal that they have submitted to MT FWP. Another organization, GGTU (George Grant Trout Unlimited) has also submitted a proposal. Both proposals are similar, with the exception of one major difference. GGTU wants to implement "rest and rotation," which means if passed, a rotating schedule will be implemented to certain areas of the river each day and will be closed to commercial and non-resident use. This one major difference between the two proposals is what we see as a possible rule change that doesn't help relieve any of the perceived crowding issues, but it will definitely increase pressure on the majority of the river. We hope that you agree that "rest and rotation" is not feasible solution on the Madison River and let MT FWP know that.
Thank you for taking the time to respond with your comments for this important issue.
